About Kevin William Gaughen

Kevin William Gaughen Jr earned his law degree from Suffolk University Law School in 2004 after completing a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications at American University in 2000. He entered the legal profession at a time when courtroom experience remained central to building a practice, and his early choices reflect that orientation.

In 2007 he served as an Assistant District Lawyer at the Norfolk County District Lawyer's Office. That role placed him in the daily work of a local prosecutor’s office, handling arraignments, preparing cases for trial and working alongside investigators and victims. The year in public service provided direct exposure to litigation and the practices of criminal justice at the county level.

Following his time in Norfolk County he continued to develop his practice through private work and bar involvement. He has been a member of the Massachusetts State Bar since 2007. His professional registrations also include admission in the District of Columbia, giving him the ability to practice in two distinct legal environments. Those dual admissions allow him to advise and represent clients across state and federal matters that touch both jurisdictions.

Gaughen practices out of Gaughen, Gaughen, Lane & Hernando, where he is part of a team that handles client matters from intake through resolution. He brings to that work the procedural knowledge and courtroom familiarity gained during his public-service year. Colleagues and clients see an attorney whose grounding in trial work informs how he prepares cases and negotiates resolutions.

He has maintained an active presence in the Massachusetts legal community while also keeping credentials current in the District of Columbia. That positioning means he can coordinate filings, appearances and strategy across state lines when cases require it. His background, combining an undergraduate grounding in political science and communications with a law degree and prosecutorial experience, shapes how he approaches case investigation and court advocacy.

Today he remains engaged at Gaughen, Gaughen, Lane & Hernando and in the bar activities that have marked much of his career. He concentrates his practice in the jurisdictions where he is admitted: Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.
