About Kelly

Kelly King trained first as a business student and then as a lawyer. She graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2002 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, studying marketing and sociology. She continued her studies at the University of Virginia School of Law and earned her J.D. in 2005.

Her education spans disciplines that sit next to one another but do not always overlap. Marketing taught her how organizations present themselves and reach audiences. Sociology offered tools for understanding how people behave in groups and institutions. The law degree tied those strands together and led her into practice in Virginia.

King spent the early years after law school learning the practical work of a lawyer. She handled matters in state courts and counseled clients on a range of legal issues. Over time she moved into private practice and established a solo firm designed to offer hands-on attention to each client. Her approach to cases is methodical. She prefers clear explanations to legalese and aims to place the law in context for people who are not lawyers.

Running a small firm shapes how she organizes work. It allows for direct client contact and quick decision-making. It also requires juggling administrative responsibilities alongside legal work. Those operational demands draw on the business training she received at William and Mary. At the same time, her background in sociology informs how she approaches client interviews, fact-gathering, and strategy discussions.

Colleagues describe her as practical and straightforward. She is comfortable in courtrooms and in conferences around a table. She expects to be judged by results and by how the process felt to the client. That perspective influences how matters are staffed and how timelines are communicated.

Outside the office she has remained connected to the Virginia legal community. She maintains her license to practice in the state and continues to monitor local court developments and procedural changes that affect clients. Her practice has adapted over time, but the central aim has not changed: to provide reliable legal counsel that people can understand.

She currently operates the Law Office of Kelly L. King, PLLC, and focuses her practice on serving clients in Virginia through that firm.
