About Karin Riley
Karin Riley Porter earned her law degree from George Mason University School of Law in 2002 after completing a Bachelor of Arts at Penn State in 1995. She built her legal foundation through those years of study and entered practice in Virginia. She is licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Her career includes a period at Price Benowitz LLP, where she is listed as a lawyer in 2012. That experience placed her in a firm environment handling contested matters and courtroom work. Over time she has balanced firm work with independent practice and appearances in regional courts.
Porter maintains active ties to professional groups that shape regional criminal defense practice. She is a member of the National College for DUI Defense, the State Bar of Virginia, the Fairfax County Bar Association and the Alexandria Bar Association. Those memberships keep her connected to peers and to continuing legal education in areas that commonly arise in circuit and district courts.
Colleagues describe her approach as steady and direct. She prepares cases methodically and places emphasis on courtroom readiness. Her experience includes pretrial motion practice, evidentiary hearings and trial work. She has handled matters that require cross-examination, negotiated resolutions and strategic pleadings aimed at protecting clients’ interests.
Porter’s practice is grounded in Virginia procedure and local court rules. She has worked in jurisdictions across Northern Virginia and maintains an office presence in Leesburg. That local base supports regular appearances in nearby county and city courts, and provides a point of contact for clients seeking counsel on matters that arise around the Loudoun County area.
She balances casework with participation in professional associations that focus on DUI defense and local bar initiatives. That involvement informs how she evaluates breath-test and field-sobriety evidence, handles discovery and prepares mitigation for sentencing when cases move beyond plea negotiation.
Clients and peers find her straightforward in communication. She explains options, timelines and possible outcomes in practical terms. Her current practice focuses on criminal defense, including DUI matters, and she works from a Leesburg office serving clients across Virginia.
