About Kelly Jane

Kelly Jane Swenseth built a path to law from a visual arts background. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in visual arts and was a scholar in the Honors Program at the University of North Dakota in 2003. She remained at UND for law school and received her J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2006.

Her early professional years took shape in private practice. In 2009 she worked at Hampton and Milligan, where she handled client matters and gained courtroom experience. In 2014 she spent time at Oram & Houghton, and later that same year she opened Swenseth Law Office, PLLC. Establishing her own firm changed the day-to-day responsibilities. She moved from staff attorney tasks to managing a practice and its client-facing operations.

Swenseth is licensed in four states: Minnesota, Colorado, Wyoming and North Dakota. That multi-jurisdictional admission has informed how she organizes cases and coordinates filings. It also means she regularly considers differing state procedures and timelines when advising clients and setting strategy.

Colleagues describe her work as steady and pragmatic. She handles case preparation, client counseling and court appearances as part of running a small firm. Managing those tasks required balancing litigation and transactional work, administrative duties and case management. The result is a practice that operates across several judicial systems while remaining attentive to individual client needs.

Her career reflects the shifts many lawyers make between larger firms and solo practice. Time at established firms provided exposure to firm processes and collaborative teams. Opening her own office allowed her to shape operations and client service practices directly. That experience has informed how she staffs matters, selects outside resources and communicates deadlines to clients.

Clients who work with Swenseth encounter a lawyer familiar with the practicalities of multi-state practice. She has steered cases through different court systems and adjusted approaches to meet varied procedural rules. Her current practice concentrates on representing clients in matters arising in Minnesota, Colorado, Wyoming and North Dakota.
