About Kelly A.
Kelly A. Benedict earned her undergraduate degree in political science and psychology from Duke University in 1986. She went on to receive her J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 1990. Those academic choices set a foundation for a career that spans multiple jurisdictions and long-term involvement in workers’ compensation practice and policy.
Benedict is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia and New Jersey. That range of admissions has enabled a practice that crosses state lines when clients’ matters demand it. She also maintains local ties through membership in county and state bar associations in several of those jurisdictions.
She practices at Benedict & Torpey and is based in the firm’s Marietta office. Her professional affiliations include current memberships in the Cobb County Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar, Pennsylvania State Bar, North Carolina State Bar and Georgia State Bar. Outside the regular bar organizations, she has served on the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council since 1997 and sits on its Rules & Mediation Committee. That long-standing role places her at the intersection of practice and the administrative processes that shape workers’ compensation in Georgia.
Colleagues and peers who have worked with Benedict describe a lawyer who balances courtroom work and administrative proceedings. Her tenure on the advisory council requires attention to rulemaking and mediation procedures, tasks that differ from day-to-day case work but inform how cases are prepared and resolved. The combination of bar memberships and advisory work gives her a practical view of how regional systems handle workplace injury claims and related disputes.
Over the years she has maintained a steady practice rather than pursuing public office or academic posts. Her presence in multiple state bars reflects a strategy of serving clients whose matters may involve neighboring states. She remains active in local bar activities and in the advisory council that has occupied a steady place in her professional life since the late 1990s. She maintains a multi-state practice from the firm’s Marietta office, handling workers’ compensation matters in the jurisdictions where she is licensed.
