About Kelley J.
Kelley J. Johnson followed an uncommon path to the law. She earned an AAS from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1991, then a B.S. in Apparel Design and Technology from Purdue University in 1992. Years later she returned to school and received her J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2005. Those early studies in design and technology give her a different perspective in legal problem solving.
After law school she entered private practice. She is admitted to practice in Indiana and in the federal courts that serve the state, including the Seventh Circuit and both the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. Her professional experience includes work at Cohen & Malad, LLP, where she has handled matters that proceeded in both state and federal forums.
Her courtroom work has involved appearances in district courts and filings at the appellate level. She represents clients in proceedings before trial courts and in certain appellate matters. That practical experience informs how she prepares cases for motion practice, discovery, and hearings. She approaches litigation with an eye toward procedure and the expectations of different courts.
Johnson maintains several professional memberships. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, and the Indianapolis Bar Association. She also participates in the local chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners as a supporting member. Outside the bar, she volunteers as a Wish Grantor for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and serves as a reader for the liturgical word at St. Alphonsus Church in Zionsville, Indiana.
Colleagues describe her as methodical in preparing filings and attentive to courtroom deadlines. Clients encounter a lawyer who draws on a broad background to present documents and arguments clearly. She keeps current on procedural developments that affect litigation in Indiana and the federal courts that hear matters from the state.
Johnson lives and works in the Indianapolis area. She continues to accept matters that require litigation in state and federal courts and concentrates her practice on litigation in Indiana courts and the federal districts that serve the state.
