About Kelby

Kelby Monks grew up studying criminal justice and took that interest into law school. He earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Boise State University in 2015. He then attended the University of Idaho College of Law, graduating with a J.D. in 2018. Those years set the framework for an early career that mixed appellate exposure and plaintiff-side practice.

While still in law school, Monks served as a law clerk at the Idaho Supreme Court in 2017. The position placed him inside the state’s appellate process at a formative time in his training. He worked on research and drafting that supported the court’s opinion-writing and internal review, gaining direct experience with legal analysis on complex issues.

In the same year he also clerked for Litster Frost Injury Lawyers. That role introduced him to the practical demands of representing clients in injury matters and the everyday work of a plaintiff-oriented practice. The combination of appellate and trial-oriented clerkships gave him a view of litigation from different angles—how trial records shape appellate questions and how appellate rulings feed back into trial strategy.

After finishing law school, Monks remained in Idaho and built his practice around those early experiences. He joined The Advocates, where he has continued to develop litigation skills. Colleagues describe him as attentive to legal detail and methodical in preparation. He is admitted to practice in Idaho and regularly appears in state courts.

Monks maintains connections to the legal community he joined after law school. He has held membership in a professional organization since 2018 and continues that affiliation. He also takes part in local legal events and training opportunities to stay current on procedural and substantive developments in state law.

Clients and other lawyers know him for a straightforward approach. He prefers clear explanations over legal jargon. He aims to give clients realistic assessments of their options and the routes available through court processes. He balances courtroom work with client counseling, recognizing that many disputes are resolved outside of trial.

He currently practices at The Advocates in Idaho and focuses his practice on civil litigation in the state.
