About Kathie Brown

Kathie Brown Roberts earned her law degree from California Western School of Law in 1991 after completing undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Her academic path placed her at the intersection of two distinct legal cultures: a West Coast law school experience followed by practice that spans several western states. The trajectory prepared her for work across state lines and the practical realities of client-centered elder law.

Roberts is admitted to practice in Utah, California and Alaska. Over the years she built a practice that serves older adults, their families and fiduciaries. She holds certification as a Certified Elder Law Lawyer from the National Elder Law Foundation, a credential that reflects a formal peer-review process and specialized training in the legal issues facing seniors. Since 2010 she has maintained memberships in national elder-law organizations, including the National Association of Elder Law Lawyers and Elder Counsel.

Her professional life has combined courtroom experience, client counseling and transactional work. That mix has given her a steady fluency in estate planning documents, probate matters and guardianship proceedings. Her files often involve questions about incapacity planning, asset protection for long-term care, and the interaction between private planning and public benefits systems. Roberts approaches those matters with pragmatic counsel and clear explanations tailored to each client’s circumstances.

Colleagues describe her as thorough in preparation and careful in advice. She is known among peers for steady work on complex files that cross jurisdictional lines, in part because her licenses cover multiple states. That background has made her a resource for families who move or maintain assets in more than one state.

Beyond client files, Roberts participates in professional circles that shape elder-law practice. Her longstanding memberships in elder-law organizations keep her current on changes in Medicaid rules, taxation issues affecting estates and evolving guardianship law. She has continued to invest in professional education since earning her certification.

Roberts maintains an active law practice, advising clients on estate planning, elder law matters and related probate issues. She is based in private practice and accepts matters involving cross-jurisdictional questions among Utah, California and Alaska. Her current practice focuses on elder law, estate planning and long-term care planning.
