About Katherine
Katherine Herrmann earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University in 2008 and completed her J.D. at Ave Maria School of Law in 2011. She entered the legal profession at a time of rapid change in employment and municipal law. Her academic background combined a grounding in criminal justice theory with three years of legal study that prepared her for public and private practice.
Early in her career she served as an Assistant City Lawyer for the City of Winchester, Virginia in 2013. That role placed her inside local government practice, handling municipal questions and advising city officials. In the same year she worked as a document review lawyer for Compliance DS, performing contract and document analysis for larger review projects. Those two positions gave her exposure to both transactional and review-oriented environments.
By 2016 she had joined The Erlich Law Office as a lawyer. Over subsequent years her admissions expanded to include the District of Columbia and Virginia, along with appearances in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia. Those credentials allowed her to handle matters that required federal court filings as well as matters rooted in state law.
Herrmann is an active member of a number of professional organizations. She belongs to the Federal Bar Association, the Virginia Equality Bar, the National Employment Lawyers Association, the Legal Network for Gender Equity, the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division, the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyer’s Association, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. These memberships reflect involvement in employment law circles, trial practice and issues of gender equity and civil rights.
Colleagues describe her work as practical and detail-oriented. Her background in municipal advising and document review informs how she prepares cases and counsels clients. She has moved between government and private practice roles, bringing an understanding of both regulatory and litigation processes to her matters.
She practices at The Erlich Law Office and handles matters that require representation in state and federal forums. Her current practice focuses on employment and civil rights matters.
