About Katherine
Katherine Ellis built a foundation in international affairs before turning to law. She earned a B.A. in International Affairs and Foreign Languages from Lewis & Clark College in 1999, then attended the University of Denver where she completed both a Master of Arts in International Studies and a Juris Doctor in 2003. Those years combined study of global affairs with legal training and set the stage for a career that has moved between private practice and court-side work.
Her first post-law-school role was a judicial clerkship at the Colorado Court of Appeals in 2007. That position offered an early, close-up view of appellate decision-making and court procedure. After clerkship she joined Wedgle & Kukreja as an associate lawyer in 2008, where she handled matters that expanded her courtroom and client-facing experience.
In 2010 Ellis launched two small firms under her own name: Mile High Law Office, LLC, and The Ellis Law Office, LLC. The move into solo practice gave her direct responsibility for case management and client development. She returned to a partnership model in 2011 as a partner at Ellis Wright & Ewegen, LLP, and a year later became a partner at The Harris Law Office, a position she continues to hold. The sequence of roles — clerk, associate, firm owner, and partner — reflects a range of practice settings and managerial responsibilities.
Professional connections have been a steady part of Ellis’s career. She has been a member of the Fellows of the Colorado Bar Association since 2014 and joined the Colorado Women’s Bar Association in 2017. Her involvement with the Colorado Lawyers Committee’s Education Task Force dates to 2018. She served as president of the Byron White Inn of Court in 2016–2017 and is a member of the William E. Doyle Inn of Court beginning in 2021. These memberships signal long-term engagement with local bar activities and peer programs.
Ellis is admitted to practice in Colorado and has combined public and private roles for most of her career. The combination of appellate clerkship, early associate work, entrepreneurial solo practice, and later partnership gives her a varied professional background. She is currently a partner at The Harris Law Office, where she maintains her practice.
