About Katherine Booth

Katherine Booth Wellington graduated from Yale University in 2008 and earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2013. Those formative years set the course for a career that has moved between private practice and the federal courts. Her academic record placed her among a generation of lawyers who transitioned quickly from law school into high-stakes appellate work.

Her early legal training came at Ropes & Gray. She worked there as a summer associate in 2012 and joined the firm as an associate after law school in 2013. The experience introduced her to complex civil matters and the firm environment of large-scale litigation. She left private practice temporarily to take federal clerkships that would shape the next phase of her career.

In 2014 she served as a law clerk to Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. The following year she clerked for Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. at the U.S. Supreme Court. Those consecutive clerkships placed her at the center of appellate decision-making and gave her close exposure to the processes of both the intermediate federal appellate court and the nation’s highest tribunal.

After her time on the bench, she returned to private practice and by 2017 was a senior associate in the Appellate Group at Hogan Lovells. In that role she briefed appeals, prepared petitions, and argued complex issues before federal and state appellate courts. Her responsibilities have included drafting appellate briefs, reviewing trial records for preserved issues, and counseling trial teams on preserving arguments for appeal.

She is admitted to practice in New York, the District of Columbia, and Massachusetts and holds memberships in the corresponding bars. Her career shows a steady thread: legal research and writing at the highest levels, followed by appellate advocacy in private practice. She is based at Hogan Lovells LLP and continues to work on appeals, post-trial motions, and related appellate matters. Her current practice centers on appellate litigation and federal appeals.
