About Kate

Kate Mataya built a practical legal education before taking on courtroom and office work in Texas. She earned a B.B.A. in Marketing and Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010. She returned to school for a J.D. from Texas Tech University, completing her law degree in 2015.

While in law school she sought hands-on experience in a range of settings. In 2013 she served as a legal intern for the 192nd Civil District Court under The Honorable Craig Smith. That same year she worked as a law clerk for the Legal Aid Society, handling matters that exposed her to client-facing problem solving and public-interest practice. The next year she held law clerk positions at Anderson Tobin and in the Consumer Protection Division of the Texas Lawyer General, where she encountered regulatory and consumer issues firsthand.

After passing the bar, Mataya joined McClure Law Group and is listed as a partner there beginning in 2015. Her early law-clerk experiences gave her a steady grounding in civil litigation and consumer matters, and she took that background into private practice. The path from court intern to partner has been direct. She moved quickly into responsibilities that included client counseling, drafting pleadings, and managing aspects of litigation.

Mataya has been a member of the State Bar of Texas since 2015, and she maintains an active role in local professional circles. She is also a member of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, a group she joined the same year she was admitted to the bar. Those memberships place her in the professional networks that handle continuing education, ethics updates, and local practice concerns.

Her academic work in marketing and Spanish informs how she communicates with clients and prepares cases. She speaks the language of both businesses and individuals, and she applies practical communication skills when advising clients. The combination of public-interest experience and consumer protection work has shaped a practice style that balances attention to legal detail with concern for everyday impacts on clients.

Outside of case files, Mataya’s early career shows a mix of courtroom exposure and office-based regulatory work. That mix has fed into a private-practice role that requires both litigation readiness and client management. She continues to practice in Texas and remains active in state and local bar organizations.

She is currently a partner at McClure Law Group, where her practice focuses on consumer protection and civil litigation.
