About Karthik
Karthik Krishnan graduated from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, earning his J.D. in 2011 after completing a B.A. in English and Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine in 2005. His academic background combined humanities and legal training, and it set the stage for early public-service work in Los Angeles.
While in law school and immediately after graduation, Krishnan worked in several municipal and county legal offices. He served as a law clerk in 2010 at the Los Angeles City Lawyer's Office and then worked as a certified law clerk in 2011 at the Los Angeles District Lawyer's Office. Those positions placed him inside government practice and exposed him to case preparation, research, and courtroom procedures.
Since 2012 Krishnan has worked at Shouse Law Group, where his title is listed as criminal defense lawyer. That move marked a shift from government clerkships to private defense practice. Colleagues and files from that period show him handling matters common to criminal defense practice, counseling clients, and preparing litigation materials.
Krishnan is admitted to practice in California and before the Ninth Circuit. His admission to the federal appellate bar means he can represent clients in both state and federal proceedings and file briefs and petitions in federal appellate courts. The combination of state and federal admissions is often useful for lawyers who handle cases that cross jurisdictional lines.
Outside regular practice he has maintained ties to the bar and to student organizations. He has been a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association since 2008. Earlier, during his law-school years, he belonged to the Public Interest Law Foundation and the Business Law Association through 2011. Those memberships reflect experience in both public-interest and transactional discussions while at university.
Krishnan’s work history shows a trajectory from legal research and government service into trial and appellate defense. He has handled the kinds of procedural work and client representation that accompany criminal defense, using the perspectives gained in city and county legal offices.
He currently practices at Shouse Law Group, where his work is concentrated on criminal defense matters in California and in the Ninth Circuit.
