About Karen M.
Karen M. Eisenhauer earned her law degree from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1992 after completing undergraduate studies in history at Yale University in 1983. She entered the legal profession at a time of rapid change in the courts and in private practice. Her academic background provided a foundation in legal research and historical perspective that has informed her subsequent work.
After law school she served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Gilbert Merritt on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 1992. That early appellate experience gave her a close-up view of federal court decision-making and the mechanics of opinion drafting. She then moved into private practice, holding associate positions at Swidler & Berlin and at Steptoe and Johnson LLP, where she handled matters common to large firm practice and developed courtroom and client-facing skills.
In 1999 she took on an of counsel role at Greensfelder, Hemker and Gale. In that capacity she balanced firm responsibilities with project-based work, contributing to litigation and advisory matters. Her time as of counsel followed years spent as an associate and marked a shift toward roles that combined casework with advisory assignments.
In 2016 she began practicing under the name Eisenhauer Law Office. That step reflected a transition to a singular practice identity and a return to hands-on representation. Over the years she has maintained registrations to practice in both the District of Columbia and Missouri. Those dual jurisdictions have shaped the kinds of matters she accepts and the clients she serves.
Eisenhauer’s career spans appellate work, large-firm litigation and the practice dynamics of a smaller office. She has moved between research-heavy assignments and client-oriented tasks. Colleagues and clients have encountered her in court filings, briefwriting and in strategic case preparation. Her professional path shows repeated engagement with federal appellate procedure as well as day-to-day litigation practice.
She continues to practice through Eisenhauer Law Office, handling legal matters in the District of Columbia and Missouri.
