About Karen

Karen Holmes trained as a writer before she trained as a lawyer. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from California State University, Bakersfield in 2000. Three years later she completed her legal studies at William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law, receiving her J.D. in 2007.

After law school Holmes took the bar examinations that allowed her to practice in two western states. She is licensed to practice in California and in New Mexico. Over the years she has handled matters that cross regional lines and that require familiarity with the differing procedures and local rules of each state.

Holmes’s background in English literature shows in her legal work. She writes clearly and edits with care. Those skills shape pleadings, motions, and client communications. Colleagues say she tends to prioritize precision; her files often reflect careful attention to chronology and documentary detail.

Her career has involved representation in state courts and administrative settings. She has assisted clients through pre-litigation problem solving and through contested hearings. In some matters she has taken depositions and prepared witnesses. In others she has negotiated resolutions outside the courtroom. She adapts tactics to the facts at hand and the procedural landscape of the relevant jurisdiction.

Clients who hire Holmes can expect an attorney who explains options in plain language. She breaks complex statutes and rules into understandable parts. She also relies on her ability to draft concise, well-structured legal documents. That approach aims to reduce surprises and to keep matters moving toward resolution.

As of 2026 Holmes continues to practice law across California and New Mexico. Her work centers on handling state-court matters and administrative proceedings in those jurisdictions, and she concentrates her practice on matters arising in California and New Mexico state courts.
