About Karen A.
Karen A. Webb built a career that bridges business and law. She earned both a Juris Doctor and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University in 2004. Before that, she completed a B.S. in psychology at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 2000. Those academic choices gave her a mix of analytical tools and understanding of organizational behavior.
After law school, Webb became part of the California bar and began practicing in the state. She joined Fenwick & West LLP, where she has worked as an attorney. Her training in law and business informs how she approaches client matters, and her earlier study of psychology contributes to how she communicates complex issues to people who are not lawyers.
Colleagues describe her as practical and direct. She writes clearly and prefers plain explanations over legalese. Cases and matters rarely fit neat templates, she says, so listening to clients is an early part of her process. That approach helps shape strategies that respond to real business concerns rather than abstract theories.
Her experience at a firm known for representing technology and life sciences companies exposed her to transactional work, regulatory questions and litigation environments. She has worked on matters that require coordination among in-house teams, outside counsel and other stakeholders. In doing so she has had to balance legal risk, commercial goals and timing constraints. Those are the kinds of trade-offs that often determine how a matter is handled and how decisions are made.
Outside the office Webb's background in psychology and business often shows up in how she mentors junior lawyers and interacts with clients. She favors clear project plans and realistic timelines. She also emphasizes ongoing education for team members so they can respond to evolving legal and business challenges.
Today she is based in California and continues to practice at Fenwick & West LLP. She currently practices law at Fenwick & West LLP in California.
