About Kara Hagen

Kara Hagen Lyons grew up amid the sports-business world before turning to law. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and Business from the University of Tennessee in 2007. She spent a year abroad at the University of Miami School of Law in 2013 on a global entrepreneurship program and completed her Juris Doctor at Salmon P. Chase College of Law, Northern Kentucky University in 2015.

Her early legal years mixed courtroom exposure with in-house experience. In 2014 she served as a clerk for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio under Judge Susan J. Dlott. That same year she worked as a law clerk for Luxottica Retail, gaining practical insight into retail and commercial operations. Those roles gave her a grounding in litigation procedure and the day-to-day legal issues businesses face.

She moved quickly into private practice. In 2015 she became the managing lawyer at Lyons & Lyons Co., LPA. The title reflects a leadership role at a small law office rather than a large-firm hierarchy. Her practice developed in the Ohio legal market while also addressing matters that extend into the federal appellate sphere.

Her background in sport management and business informs her approach to client problems. It gives her a sense for commercial realities and contract concerns. The clerkship with a federal judge offered familiarity with civil procedure and evidence rules. The retail-clerkship year exposed her to operational and compliance questions that often surface in business disputes.

Colleagues describe her as pragmatic and attentive to detail. She tends to break complex issues into clear steps for clients. She prepares cases for trial but also weighs settlement options when those serve a client’s interests. Her experience spans courtroom work, appellate procedure, and transactional matters born from retail and business contexts.

Lyons is admitted to practice in Ohio and before the Federal Circuit. She maintains an active role at Lyons & Lyons Co., LPA, handling matters that require both state-court litigation skills and an understanding of federal appellate practice. Her current practice focuses on civil litigation and business-related matters in Ohio and before the Federal Circuit.
