About K.O.
K.O. Herston earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville in 1997 after completing a bachelor’s degree at Vanderbilt University in 1994. He began his professional life at a time when the legal landscape was shifting and has practiced in the years since across Tennessee and in federal appellate settings.
He is admitted to practice in Tennessee and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. That dual admission shapes how he approaches cases: an eye for state-court procedure and an awareness of federal appellate standards. Those credentials also allow him to pursue matters that move beyond a single courtroom and into the appellate record.
Herston built his practice in Tennessee and later established Herston Law Group, PLC. He serves as the principal at the firm and manages the day-to-day work of a small legal team. The firm handles litigation and filings that require both trial-level attention and appellate briefing. Clients work with him on matters that require careful preparation of the record as well as written advocacy.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing filings and pragmatic in courtroom settings. He prepares pleadings, briefs appeals, and works directly with clients through each phase of a dispute. That hands-on approach means he often handles argument preparation and the drafting of appellate briefs himself, while coordinating with other lawyers on trial strategy when cases remain in state court.
Herston’s academic background — a B.A. from Vanderbilt and a J.D. from the University of Tennessee — provided a foundation for practice that spans trial procedure and appellate review. He has remained connected to Tennessee’s legal community through his work in state courts and by maintaining admissions that allow appearances at the federal appellate level.
Outside of hearings and briefs, he runs the administrative side of Herston Law Group, PLC, overseeing client intake, case management, and the firm’s litigation calendar. That administrative role complements his courtroom responsibilities and keeps him involved in the strategic choices each case presents.
He currently represents clients in Tennessee and before the Sixth Circuit as part of his practice at Herston Law Group, PLC.
