About Justin Michael
Justin Michael Bawden earned his Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2010. He arrived at law school after undergraduate work and completed the three-year program that culminated in his degree. The credential set the course for a career centered on courtroom work and client advocacy.
He began his legal career in public defense. In 2010 he served as a Deputy State Public Defender with the Colorado State Public Defender. That role placed him in front of judges and juries early in his career. He handled arraignments, preliminary hearings, motions practice and trials. The experience exposed him to a broad range of state criminal matters and the fast pace of trial preparation.
After his time with the public defender's office he moved into private practice. He opened The Law Office of Justin Bawden to provide defense representation in Colorado courts. At his firm he continued to represent people facing criminal charges at the trial level and in plea negotiations. He handles the practical tasks that follow arrest: investigation, evidence review, witness interviews and courtroom advocacy.
Bawden is admitted to the bar in Colorado and holds membership in the State Bar of Colorado. He maintains that professional affiliation and participates in the bar’s resources for practicing attorneys. That connection keeps him current on state procedure and evolving case law that affects criminal defense practice.
Clients and colleagues describe his approach as straightforward. He prepares cases to be tried rather than treating every file as a paper case. He balances courtroom readiness with efforts to resolve matters when resolution serves the client’s interests. Communication is a regular feature of his practice; he aims to keep clients informed about options, timelines and likely outcomes.
Across public and private practice he has developed courtroom skills and an understanding of Colorado’s criminal justice system. He draws on that background when evaluating charges and pursuing defenses. He now concentrates his practice on criminal defense in Colorado.
