About Justin Lee
Justin Lee Kelsey built a path from engineering into the law. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1997 and a J.D. from Boston University in 2001. The technical training came first; the law degree came after. Together they inform a measured, detail-oriented approach to family law work.
He began his legal career in the early 2000s. By 2004 he was working at Stevenson & Lynch, P.C., where he rose from associate to senior associate. In 2008 he became a partner at Kelsey & Trask, P.C. That same year he took on leadership responsibilities outside the courtroom, joining the board of The Divorce Center and later chairing its Public Education Committee. Over time he shifted his practice toward mediation and collaborative processes while maintaining litigation chops.
Kelsey is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is a certified mediator through the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation. That credential sits alongside years of hands-on family law work. Clients encounter someone who is comfortable in both negotiation rooms and family court calendars.
He has been active in professional organizations for more than a decade. Since 2013 he has served on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation. He joined the Boston Bar Association’s Family Law Steering Committee the same year. In 2015 he took on the role of treasurer for the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council and continues in that post. He is also a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and has held ongoing responsibilities with The Divorce Center since 2008.
Kelsey’s background in engineering shows in the way he dissects complex problems and explains them plainly. He applies that method to division of assets, parenting agreements and settlement frameworks. He uses mediation skills to narrow disputes and collaborative processes to create structured settlements that avoid repeated court visits.
Currently he practices from Skylark Law & Mediation, P.C., where he manages a caseload that includes contested and non‑contested family matters. He combines courtroom experience, mediation certification and collaborative law leadership in everyday practice. His current practice centers on family law, mediation and collaborative divorce.
