About Justin D

Justin D Criswell grew up studying criminal justice and went on to law school after undergraduate studies. He began his college career at Pikeville College in 2006, transferred to Morehead State University and earned a B.S. in Criminology in 2008. He then attended Appalachian School of Law, completing his J.D. in 2013.

Criswell entered local public service soon after finishing law school. In 2014 he served as an Assistant County Lawyer in the Carter County Lawyer's Office while also opening a solo practice that same year under the name Criswell Law Office. He later took a position as Assistant County Lawyer in Elliott County in 2017. Those roles put him in daily contact with county officials, local courts and community residents.

His professional memberships reflect that municipal and county work. He has been a member of the County Lawyer Association since 2015 and remains an active participant in that organization. The combination of county office work and private practice has given him experience in the practical side of local government law and everyday legal issues faced by individuals in Kentucky.

Colleagues say his routine work often involves advising on matters that touch local administration and community needs. As a solo practitioner he has handled a range of tasks typical to small firm practice, including client counseling, pleadings and court appearances. His time in county lawyer offices required frequent coordination with elected officials and staff on ordinances, contracts and other municipal business.

Criswell’s path is straightforward. Education in criminology led to legal training and then a mix of public service and private practice. He has worked in both Carter and Elliott counties and has maintained his own office since 2014. That continuity has allowed him to build a steady practice that serves local clients and governmental bodies.

He is admitted to practice in Kentucky and maintains his practice through Criswell Law Office. He currently works from that office, serving clients and county offices across Kentucky in matters that arise at the local level.
