Julia Mezhinsky Jayne is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. She was admitted to the California State Bar in 1999 and holds bar number 202753. Her license is currently in active status. Ms. Jayne is the founder and president of Jayne Law Group, P.C., a criminal defense firm located at 803 Hearst Avenue, Berkeley, California. She has been practicing law for over 25 years, representing clients in both state and federal courts throughout California.
Ms. Jayne earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings College of the Law) in 1999. Prior to law school, she completed her undergraduate education at the University of California, Los Angeles, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies in 1995, graduating magna cum laude. During her time at UC Hastings, she participated in a spring semester program at Oxford University Faculty of Law in 1998.
Ms. Jayne specializes in white-collar and general criminal defense, handling felony and misdemeanor cases. Her practice encompasses various stages of litigation, including investigations, pre-trial motions, trials, and appeals. She has represented clients in cases involving mail and wire fraud, bribery, securities fraud, bank fraud, environmental crimes, money laundering, theft of trade secrets, antitrust violations, immigration crimes, false statements, identity theft, tax evasion, and extradition matters. Her extensive experience includes over 40 jury trials and numerous evidentiary motions.
Throughout her career, Ms. Jayne has been admitted to practice before several courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. She has also appeared before various state courts in California. Prior to founding her own firm, she served as a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County, handling a range of misdemeanor, felony, and juvenile cases. She has also worked as a civil litigator at Larson King in San Francisco and represented clients at Sideman & Bancroft LLP.
Ms. Jayne is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the Northern District of California, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Women's White Collar Defense Association.
