His commitment to serving families in need of legal guidance has been a driving force throughout his professional journey. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Mr. Matsunaga graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1976.
He pursued higher education at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics in 1980. His career began in real estate, and he obtained his broker's license in 1981. In 1989, he moved to Kahala, Hawaii, to develop properties for Japanese investors, gaining experience in international real estate markets. However, after the Tokyo Stock Market crash in 1990, he returned to Los Angeles to pivot his career toward law. Mr. Matsunaga attended law school at the University of West Los Angeles, where he developed his legal skills. His legal career began as a law clerk at Magana, Cathcart & McCarthy, a Century City law firm specializing in personal injury and wrongful death cases. After passing the bar in 1995, he joined Barth, Green & Kelly, a real estate defense firm.
There, he represented sellers and real estate agents who faced lawsuits from disgruntled buyers — This experience laid the groundwork for his future endeavors in law. In 1996, he founded Matsunaga and Associates, which later evolved into Elder Law Services of California. His primary practice areas include estate planning—specifically wills, trusts, and probate—as well as Medi-Cal planning for long-term care. Over the past 27 years, Mr. Matsunaga has personally met with thousands of families to establish their Revocable Living Trusts. He takes pride in his firm’s impressive 99.99% success rate in helping clients qualify for Medi-Cal benefits while preserving their assets and protecting their family homes. Mr. Matsunaga is an active member of several professional organizations, including the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
He is also affiliated with the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform. His involvement extends to the California Association of Realtors, the Beverly Hills Greater Los Angeles Board of Realtors, and the National Notary Association. Additionally, he is a member of the Better Business Bureau and the Torrance Chamber of Commerce. Fluent in English and conversational in Japanese, Mr. Matsunaga is committed to serving clients, ensuring that families receive the legal support they need during critical times.
