About Jubilo Lopes
Jubilo Lopes Afonso earned his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2009 after beginning his studies in 2006. His legal education placed him in the New Jersey legal community at a time of change, and he entered practice soon after graduation. The law school years shaped his approach to litigation and client work and set the stage for a practice split between private firm work and municipal court service.
Afonso joined Afonso & Afonso, LLC as a partner in 2009. He has spent much of his career at that firm. The partner title early in his career suggests rapid assumption of responsibility. Over time he built a portfolio of matters handled in private practice and maintained ties to local court systems.
In 2016 Afonso served as a prosecutor for the Plainfield Municipal Court. That role put him in the courtroom on a regular basis and required work on charging decisions, arraignments and trial preparation. Serving as a municipal prosecutor gave him direct exposure to day-to-day municipal operations and courtroom procedure. It also meant balancing public duties with continuing work at his firm.
Afonso’s professional life combines private practice and public service. He has handled cases from the firm’s office and appeared before municipal judges on behalf of the state. His practice habits reflect the rhythms of municipal dockets and the deadlines of private clients. He maintains current membership in professional associations and participates in the local legal community.
Today Afonso continues to practice at Afonso & Afonso, LLC. He divides his time between the firm and municipal courtroom responsibilities, bringing experience from both settings to his current matters. His practice remains anchored in New Jersey, where he works on cases that arise in local courts and in the firm’s office.
