About Joshua
Joshua Voelkel earned his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2019. He completed the degree program at a time when many recent graduates were navigating a changing legal market. The classroom training and casework during law school provided a foundation that he has built on in private practice.
After law school, Voelkel entered firm practice and is now an associate at Geoff McDonald & Associates PC. At the firm he handles a range of matters alongside more senior attorneys. His role includes legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, and preparing clients for hearings and trials.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in how he approaches files. He breaks problems into discreet tasks and keeps meticulous notes. That style shows up in litigation preparation and client communication. He spends considerable time analyzing statutes and case law to identify possible strategies for clients.
He maintains current memberships in professional associations that support continuing legal education and professional standards. Those memberships give him access to practice updates and peer networks. He uses those resources to stay current on changes in procedure and recent appellate decisions.
At Geoff McDonald & Associates PC, Voelkel has been integrated into the firm’s workflow on both individual client matters and larger case teams. He often coordinates discovery and works with experts when a file requires technical input. He also handles client intake and early case assessment, helping determine which files warrant intensive litigation and which may be resolved through negotiation.
Outside the day-to-day, Voelkel continues to sharpen courtroom skills and trial preparation techniques. He balances the demands of casework with the administrative duties that come with firm practice. He currently practices at Geoff McDonald & Associates PC and focuses his work on representing clients through litigation and pretrial processes.
