About Joshua Scott
Joshua Scott Milam trained at SMU Dedman School of Law, earning both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Laws in Taxation in 2016. He completed the dual programs the same year, a pathway that combined classroom study of tax theory with the practical elements of law practice. The SMU credentials sit at the center of his professional story and shaped the areas of law he later pursued.
He moved into private wealth work shortly after law school. In 2017 he joined Castro & Co. as director of its Private Wealth Division. That role placed him at the junction of tax planning and asset management for individuals and families. It also exposed him to client-side issues about succession, tax compliance, and the interplay between investment strategies and estate arrangements.
By 2019 he had left Castro & Co. to form his own firm. As managing partner of Milam Law Office, PLLC, he took responsibility for setting the firm’s direction and managing client matters. The transition from a division director to firm founder required handling both legal work and the administrative tasks that come with running a small practice. He continues to handle matters that involve tax questions tied to wealth preservation.
Milam is licensed to practice in Texas. His LL.M. in Taxation is one clear influence on the types of files he accepts. He commonly works on issues that require interpreting tax rules alongside trust and estate documents. Colleagues and clients have noted that the tax degree gives him a technical grounding when cases turn on statutory detail or regulatory requirements.
His practice in 2026 is concentrated at Milam Law Office, PLLC in Texas, where he remains the managing partner. He handles tax-related matters and private wealth concerns for individuals and families, balancing legal analysis with the operational side of running a small law firm.
