About Joshua C. P.

Joshua C. P. Reams trained as a lawyer on the West Coast and moved steadily into elder law and estate practice. He earned his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law in 2016. Before that he completed a B.A. in political science and philosophy at Northwest Nazarene College in 2013.

Early in law school Reams combined classroom work with practical placements. In 2014 he served as a law clerk at GCHLaw LLC. He worked in clinic settings at Willamette’s Trusts and Estates Clinic in 2015, gaining hands-on experience in estate planning and the administration of trusts. In 2016 he was a legal extern with Sarah K. Rinehart, where he continued work tied to client counseling and estate matters.

After graduation Reams joined Ahrens DeAngeli Law Group LLP as a lawyer in 2016. He remains listed with that firm. His practice has centered on issues commonly encountered by older clients and their families, including estate planning, probate, guardianship matters and long-term care planning. He also advises on tax considerations that affect estates and trusts.

Reams is admitted to practice in both Oregon and Idaho. He holds a VA certification from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which allows him to work on veterans’ benefits issues that intersect with elder law and estate planning. That credential informs a portion of his client work, particularly cases that involve pension and benefits eligibility for veterans.

Professional associations figure prominently in Reams’s career. He has been a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys since 2019. He serves on the Walk Planning Committee for the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Idaho Chapter, a role he has held since 2017. He joined several Oregon State Bar sections in 2017, including Elder Law, Estate Planning and Administration, and Taxation. He is also a member of the Trust & Estate Professionals of Idaho, the American Bar Association and the Federalist Society.

Colleagues describe Reams as methodical in document drafting and steady in client meetings. He spends a good portion of appointments explaining how probate, trust mechanisms and taxation interact. He also works with families on crisis planning and end-of-life decision tools.

Reams’s practice is based at Ahrens DeAngeli Law Group, LLP, where his work continues to revolve around elder law, estate planning, probate and veterans’ benefits matters. His current practice focuses on estate planning, elder law and related tax issues.
