About Josh

Josh Howard began his professional path in journalism before moving to law. He earned a B.S. in Journalism and Communications from the University of Florida in 2006 after attending from 2004. He then enrolled at Stetson University College of Law, completing his J.D. in 2009 following studies that began in 2007. The combination of reporting and legal training shaped an analytical approach to casework and courtroom preparation.

After law school, Howard entered practice in Florida. He is admitted to practice in the State of Florida and is authorized to appear before the Federal Circuit. Those credentials have allowed him to handle matters that range from local court appearances to filings in federal appellate venues. Over the years he has maintained professional ties to the legal community through several local and state organizations.

Howard has been active in county and regional defense organizations. He joined the Broward County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2012 and became a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Miami-Dade chapter in 2015. He has also held membership in the Broward County Bar Association since 2016. Those memberships have kept him connected to colleagues who practice in trial courts across South Florida and provided access to continuing legal education and peer review.

His practice reflects those connections. Much of Howard’s work involves criminal defense matters in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. He handles arraignments, pretrial motions, hearings and jury trials. He also represents clients in related post-conviction proceedings and matters that require appellate filings at the federal level. Colleagues describe him as thorough in preparing witnesses and records for court, and he places particular attention on the details of evidence and procedure.

Outside of courtroom activity, Howard’s background in journalism informs how he assesses case narratives and prepares witnesses for testimony. That training influences his written work as well; pleadings and briefs tend to be concise and organized. He participates in local bar events and continuing education programs, in part to stay current on changes in procedure and case law that affect criminal practice in South Florida.

He currently practices criminal defense in South Florida.
