About Joseph W.

Joseph W. Fuson built his legal foundation in Tennessee. He earned a B.A. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2000 and a J.D. from Nashville School of Law in 2006. A year later he deepened his trial skills by attending the Tennessee Criminal Defense College in 2012. He has also completed the NIHTSA 24-hour DWI Detection and Standard Field Sobriety Testing Course.

Fuson’s path into the courtroom was gradual and hands-on. He worked as a legal assistant at Leitner, Williams, Dooley & Napolitan in 1997 and later served as a paralegal at Bass, Berry & Sims in 2005. After earning his law degree, he launched Fuson Law, P.C. in 2006 and began handling client work as an attorney. Four years later he formed a partnership and became a partner at Freeman & Fuson in 2010.

He is licensed to practice in Tennessee and in the U.S. Federal Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. Those credentials support work both in state courts and in federal settings. His training in standardized field sobriety testing informs how he approaches DWI cases and other matters that hinge on evidentiary details.

Fuson is active in professional circles. He maintains memberships in the Tennessee State Bar, the Nashville Bar Association and the Williamson County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. His membership in the NORML Legal Committee reflects involvement in conversations about drug policy and legal strategy. He is listed as a Ticket Void Referral Lawyer as well.

Peers and clients see him most often in criminal defense settings. He handles matters at various stages, from pretrial motions to courtroom hearings. His courtroom experience, combined with specialized training in DWI procedures, shapes the way he evaluates evidence and prepares cross-examinations. He approaches cases by breaking down technical reports and search procedures into concrete issues that judges and juries can follow.

Fuson maintains offices for Freeman & Fuson, including a satellite location. He represents clients in Tennessee state courts and in the Middle District federal court, handling criminal defense and DWI matters in his current practice.
