About Joseph W.

Joseph W. Balesteri earned a business degree from Indiana University in 1992 and a J.D. from DePaul College of Law in 1995. He moved from the classroom to the courtroom soon after completing law school, and his career has centered on litigation in Illinois and in federal court. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Early in his career Balesteri joined the ranks of civil trial lawyers and built a practice that kept him active in courtrooms and case preparation. Over the years he has maintained memberships in several professional organizations that align with trial work and courtroom advocacy. He has been an elected member of the Board of Directors for the Society of Trial Lawyers since 2009, a role that has kept him engaged in peer governance and the broader trial bar community.

Balesteri’s professional affiliations include the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, the Chicago Bar Association, Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, the Justinian Society, and the Fenwick Bar Association. He has kept those connections current while practicing, attending association events and participating in the legal networks that surround complex litigation. Those memberships underline a career grounded in trial practice and in the professional organizations that support trial attorneys.

Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who spends most of his professional time preparing cases for trial and arguing them when necessary. He has handled matters that require work both at the state level and in federal court. He spends time on case strategy, witness preparation, deposition work and courtroom procedure. He also maintains ties with local bar organizations in Chicago, where many of his matters have been litigated.

Balesteri is currently of counsel at Power Rogers LLP, where he continues to represent clients in civil litigation matters. He has combined sustained trial work with long-term involvement in trial lawyer organizations, a balance that informs his approach in and out of court. He currently practices at Power Rogers LLP, where his practice focuses on civil trial litigation and federal court matters.
