About Joseph S.

Joseph S. Kozlowski is an Idaho lawyer whose career blends public-sector experience and private practice. He built a foundation in law and taxation that informs his work today. Colleagues and clients see a practitioner who moved deliberately from legal education into courtroom and office settings.

Kozlowski earned a B.S. in Political Science from Missouri State University in 1998. He went on to receive a J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2002. He then pursued an LL.M. in Taxation at New York University School of Law, completing that program in 2003. Those academic credentials provided both doctrinal training and technical grounding in tax law.

Early in law school he sought exposure to different aspects of public service. In 2000 he served a summer externship with Justice Cathy R. Silak at the Idaho Supreme Court. The following year he worked as a summer intern in the Boise City Lawyer’s Office. Those placements put him inside government legal offices and gave him first-hand experience in municipal and appellate procedures.

After law school and his LL.M., Kozlowski entered private practice. In 2003 he joined Thornton Byron LLP as a lawyer. He spent several years there developing client-facing skills and handling matters typical of a private firm environment. In 2013 he opened his own practice, Kozlowski Law Office PLLC, and is listed as the owner. Running a small firm required shifting between casework, client development, and the administrative tasks of firm management.

Kozlowski is admitted to practice in Idaho. His educational emphasis on taxation and his time in both public and private roles shape the kinds of matters he takes on. He draws on courtroom observation from the Supreme Court externship and practical municipal experience from his time in the Boise City Lawyer’s Office when advising clients.

Today Kozlowski practices from Kozlowski Law Office PLLC. His work reflects his training in tax law alongside experience handling civil matters that arise for individuals and local businesses. He currently concentrates his practice on tax-related issues and general civil practice.
