About Joseph

Joseph Preiser studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 2005 before returning to school for dual degrees. He completed a J.D. and an M.B.A. at Loyola University Chicago in 2009. Those years combined classroom study in law and business, and they set the stage for a career that has moved between public service and private practice.

Early in his career he worked as a project assistant at Jenner & Block in 2005. He later gained courtroom exposure as a judicial extern in 2007 for Trial Judge Thomas L. Hogan in the Circuit Court of Cook County. The next year he served as a traffic court prosecutor for the City of Chicago, handling high-volume dockets and learning to work quickly under pressure.

In 2009 he joined the Cook County State's Lawyer's Office as an assistant. That role put him on the prosecution side of matters that come through one of the nation's busiest county systems. The work provided hands-on experience in pretrial preparation, courtroom procedure and interacting with police and witnesses. He moved into private practice in 2015, joining the Law Offices of Goldberg & Goldberg as a lawyer.

Preiser holds active memberships in several bar organizations. He belongs to the Wisconsin State Bar and the Illinois State Bar Association. He is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association. Those memberships reflect the two jurisdictions where he is licensed to practice law: Wisconsin and Illinois. He has navigated both systems professionally, balancing responsibilities in each state over the course of his career.

His resume sketches a practitioner comfortable in court and in the quieter work behind the scenes. Prosecutorial assignments early on meant steady courtroom time and direct contact with case mechanics. Later private practice has involved advising clients and managing cases through to resolution. Colleagues and opposing counsel describe him as methodical in preparing a file and straightforward in exchanges, traits that matter in contested matters and negotiations alike.

Since joining the Law Offices of Goldberg & Goldberg in 2015 he has remained there as part of the firm's roster. His background in municipal and county-level proceedings informs his approach to cases that arise in state and local courts. He focuses on representing clients in state and local matters in Wisconsin and Illinois.
