About Joseph P.
Joseph P. Villanueva built his legal foundation at Stony Brook University, where he earned a B.A. in 1994. He continued his studies at Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, receiving his J.D. in 1997. Those years set the stage for a career that moved quickly from public service into trial work in both corporate and private practice.
Soon after law school he entered public prosecution. In 1998 he served as a prosecutor in New York City. That role put him inside courtrooms and before juries. It also gave him early experience in case preparation, evidentiary practice, and courtroom procedure.
By 2000 Villanueva had shifted into trial counsel roles in the private sector. Records show he served as Senior Trial Counsel for a Fortune 50 company in that year. He also began serving as Lead Trial Counsel at Joseph P. Villanueva, Lawyers At Law in 2000. Those positions reflect a move toward contentious litigation and regular courtroom appearances.
He is admitted to practice in New York and has credentials to appear before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions complement the trial work he has conducted over the years. They also allow him to handle matters in both state and federal forums when clients require that reach.
Villanueva maintains several professional memberships. He holds membership in the Westchester County Bar Association and belongs to the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the New York State Bar. These affiliations connect him to peers across civic, local and statewide legal communities.
His career path—prosecutor, in-house trial counsel, and lead trial counsel in private practice—has produced steady courtroom experience. He has handled trial matters from multiple vantage points and brings that familiarity to client representation. Today his practice continues in private practice, representing clients in state and federal courts and handling trial litigation and criminal defense matters.
