About Joseph M.
Joseph M. Busher earned his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1996, after beginning his legal studies in 1993. He came of age at a law school known for its practical programs and clinical work, training in a setting that prepares students for courtroom practice and written advocacy. Those formative years set the stage for a career spent largely in Connecticut courts and in federal appellate matters.
He is a partner at Jackson O Keefe. Over the years he has built a practice that reflects the mix of forums where he is admitted to appear. He holds admission in Connecticut and before the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which means he has handled matters that reached the appellate level beyond trial courts.
Busher’s professional life has included both trial and appellate work. That dual exposure shows in the kinds of matters his practice handles: contested hearings in state court, proceedings in a tribal forum, and appellate briefs filed in the Second Circuit. He has worked on cases that required managing evidence at trial and then reframing legal arguments for appellate review. The transition between those roles requires plain legal writing and an eye for procedural detail.
Outside the courtroom, he is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and of CLM. Those memberships place him in professional networks that cover both local practice issues and broader topics in litigation management and law firm operations. He has used those connections to stay current on procedural developments and on shifts in appellate practice that affect lawyers in the region.
Colleagues describe him as someone who values clarity in legal work and a steady approach in court. He divides his time between responding to trial court needs and preparing appellate filings. That balance shapes a practice that must be attentive to deadlines, factual records, and the differing standards that govern trial courts and appellate panels.
He currently practices at Jackson O Keefe and regularly appears in Connecticut state courts, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
