Joseph J. Weissman is a board-certified intellectual property attorney at Johnson, Pope, Bokor, Ruppel & Burns LLP in Tampa, Florida. He has been practicing law since 1994, focusing on intellectual property litigation, including trademark, copyright. Patent matters, as well as business litigation. Mr.
Weissman earned his Juris Doctor with honors from The George Washington University Law School in 1994 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History from the University of Pennsylvania, completed in 1990. Before joining Johnson, Pope in 2002, he practiced law in Washington, D.C., for five years. At Johnson, Pope, Mr. Weissman handles a range of cases, including trademark and copyright registration, computer litigation, and domain name disputes. He also addresses commercial litigation matters such as non-compete agreements, antitrust issues, and general business disputes.
He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America since 2012, earning "Lawyer of the Year" honors in 2015, 2016, 2021, and 2022 for his work in patent litigation, trademark law, and intellectual property litigation. Additionally, he has been selected to Super Lawyers from 2011 to 2026. Mr. Weissman is a member of The Florida Bar and is board-certified in intellectual property law by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization. He has served as a board member for the Florida Bar Board of Specialized Legal Education for six years.
He is also a member of the Federal Bar Association for the Middle District of Florida and the International Trademark Association. Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Weissman is an avid runner, having completed the New York City Marathon three times. He enjoys international travel and exploring natural landscapes, such as Iceland’s Gullfoss waterfall and Oregon’s Crater Lake. He values spending time outdoors and sharing experiences with his family.
