About Joseph A.
Joseph A. Ingram built a career that moves between courthouse hallways and client interviews. He trained in law after completing undergraduate and graduate study at Samford University and then earning a law degree from Birmingham School of Law. His academic background includes coursework in business management and education, and he returned to study education after practicing law for several years.
Early in his legal career Ingram worked as a law clerk. He served as a clerk at Crittenden & Martin in 2000 and then at the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in 2001. Those positions gave him day-to-day experience in criminal matters and courtroom procedure. He started his own firm, Ingram Law, LLC, in 2003 and has practiced there since.
Membership in bar and professional organizations has been a steady part of his practice. He has belonged to the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association since 2003. He has also been involved with national criminal defense organizations, holding membership in the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. From 2007 to 2010 he served on the CJA Public Defender’s Panel for the Northern District of Alabama, a role that placed him on federal appointments in serious criminal cases.
Ingram is admitted to practice in Alabama and is authorized to appear before the Eleventh Circuit. That combination has shaped the kinds of matters he takes on. His work spans state-level criminal cases and federal matters that may require representation on appeal or at preliminary stages of federal prosecution. He handles investigations, pretrial motions, hearings and trials, and has experience managing cases that move between state and federal courtrooms.
Colleagues and clients describe him as pragmatic about case strategy and methodical in preparing for court. He approaches filings and hearings with attention to detail and an eye for procedural issues that can affect outcomes. The practice emphasizes direct client contact; he meets with accused individuals and their families to explain steps and possible consequences.
Outside the courtroom he has kept ties to legal groups in Birmingham and to national criminal defense circles. That engagement has informed his practice and kept him current on procedural developments. He continues to operate Ingram Law, LLC, where he represents individuals in criminal matters in Alabama and in proceedings that reach the Eleventh Circuit.
