About Jose A. B.
Jose A. B. Nolla earned his law degree from Interamerican University of Puerto Rico School of Law in 1990 after completing a BSBA at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez in 1985. His legal studies extended beyond Puerto Rico: he attended a summer law program in Spain through the College of William and Mary in 1991, and he has taken courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Those formative years combined business training and comparative legal study, shaping an approach that blends practical and doctrinal perspectives.
He began building his legal career in the early 1990s. In 1993 he served as a capital partner at McConnell Valdés, a role that placed him in the middle of complex commercial and employment matters common to the Puerto Rican bar at that time. He is admitted to practice in Puerto Rico and before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and his work has often crossed between local and federal forums.
By the mid-2000s his professional path had taken him to a firm bearing his name. Since 2006 he has held a membership at Nolla, Palou & Casellas, LLC. That association reflects a shift from the large-firm partner model toward practice in a smaller firm setting. At Nolla, Palou & Casellas he has continued to handle matters that arise at the intersection of employment law and broader corporate concerns.
Nolla has maintained steady ties to professional organizations that align with those subjects. He has been a member of the Federal Bar Association since 1994. He joined the Puerto Rico Bar Association’s Commission on Labor and Employment in 2005 and remains active there. He is also a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, a connection that keeps him close to the practical priorities of workplace professionals. Those memberships signal sustained engagement with both the legal rules and the human resources practices that shape disputes and policy.
Throughout his career he has balanced litigation and advisory work, moving between courtroom appearances and counseling clients on compliance and employment policies. He has worked in settings that require attention to both Puerto Rican law and federal procedure. He currently practices at Nolla, Palou & Casellas, LLC, where his practice centers on labor and employment matters, including related federal litigation.
