About Jordan T.
Jordan T. Newport earned a B.S. in Business Marketing from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2016 and completed his J.D. at Lincoln Memorial University’s John J. Duncan, Jr. School of Law in 2019. His academic background combined practical business training with legal studies, and he moved into hands-on legal work during law school and immediately after graduation.
Early in his legal career Newport held internships and clerkship roles that introduced him to appellate procedure and day-to-day firm work. In 2017 he served as a judicial clerk intern at the Tennessee Court of Appeals and worked as a law clerk for a Knoxville law office. After earning his J.D., he joined Taylor & Knight, GP as an associate lawyer in 2019. He later joined Hagood Moody Hodge PLC as a lawyer in 2022.
Newport is licensed to practice in Tennessee and is admitted to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Tennessee. Those admissions position him to handle matters that move between state and federal forums, and they reflect experience preparing filings for multiple levels of the judiciary.
He holds legal research certifications from both Westlaw and LexisNexis. Those credentials support his written work, which includes draft motions, appellate briefs, and discovery documents. Memberships in the Knoxville Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the American Inns of Court keep him plugged into professional discussions and local practice developments.
Day-to-day, Newport combines courtroom exposure from his clerkship and firm roles with hands-on litigation tasks. He assists in case development, prepares court filings, and supports trial teams when matters proceed toward hearings or trial. The mix of appellate and trial experience gives him a working perspective on strategy, deadlines, and the procedural mechanics that shape litigation outcomes.
He is currently a lawyer at Hagood Moody Hodge PLC, where he handles litigation and related court work in Tennessee and in the federal districts that cover the state. His current practice focuses on litigated matters in Tennessee and the Eastern and Middle federal districts of the state.
