About Jonathan
Jonathan Sternberg studied history at the University of Kansas, receiving his B.A. in 1999. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law in 2004. Those academic years set the foundation for a practice that spans both state and federal courts.
He joined Jonathan Sternberg, Lawyer, P.C. in 2007 and has maintained his practice there since. Over the years he built a practice that regularly appears in trial and appellate forums. Much of his work involves filings, briefs and oral argument in federal courts, and he has represented clients before district courts and courts of appeal across the country.
His admissions list is unusually broad. He is licensed in Missouri, Kansas and Illinois, and he holds admission to the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also admitted to a long list of federal appeals courts, including the 1st through 11th Circuits, the D.C. Circuit and the Federal Circuit, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. On the trial-court side, his credentials include admissions in multiple district courts such as the Northern, Southern and Central Districts of Illinois, the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri, the Western District of Arkansas and the District of Kansas.
His bar and professional memberships reflect steady engagement in legal organizations. He has been a member of The Missouri Bar and the American Bar Association since 2007. He joined the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association in 2008 and the Eighth Circuit Bar Association and Kansas Bar Association in 2013. In 2016 he added membership in the Supreme Court of Missouri Historical Society, and in 2020 he joined the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. These memberships complement a practice that places a premium on appellate procedure and federal-court litigation.
Colleagues describe him as someone who prefers clear, concise briefs and direct oral argument. He frequently moves between trial-level matters and matters on appeal. He handles case preparation, appellate briefing and courtroom advocacy at multiple levels of the federal system. He continues to practice at Jonathan Sternberg, Lawyer, P.C., where his work centers on appellate and federal-court litigation.
