About Jonathan Rian
Jonathan Rian Gross has practiced law in California for more than three decades. He built a career that moves between courtroom advocacy and dispute resolution. His record shows steady involvement in federal and state matters across the state.
Gross earned a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1982. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco in 1985. Those credentials anchored an early legal practice that expanded into both litigation and mediation.
He has been a member of the California bar since 1986. Over the years he secured admission to practice before multiple federal forums: the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, Northern and Central Districts of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. That range of admissions has allowed him to handle cases that require appearances in both trial and appellate settings.
In 2002 records note his work as a lawyer and mediator in matters connected to Bishop Barry Drath, an engagement that illustrates his experience in mediation and dispute resolution. He has balanced roles as an advocate in contested proceedings with work that aims to settle disputes outside of the courtroom.
Gross joined Mound Cotton Wollan & Greengrass as a partner in 2014. At the firm he has continued to take on litigation in state and federal courts while also offering mediation services. His practice navigates procedural and substantive issues that arise in complex cases, and he has pursued resolutions through both trial work and negotiated settlement.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who moves comfortably between hearings and negotiation tables. He has managed matters that require careful procedural strategy in the federal system, and he has represented clients in state-level litigation as well. His courtroom experience is matched by time spent preparing cases for alternative dispute resolution.
He is currently a partner at Mound Cotton Wollan & Greengrass LLP and maintains an active practice handling litigation and dispute resolution in California federal and state courts.
