About Matthew N.
Matthew N. White earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he graduated with a B.A. in 1976. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco in 1979. Those years set the foundation for a long career spent largely in private practice and legal education.
Soon after completing law school he established ties to the California bar, maintaining membership since 1979. Early in his career he built a practice that combined client representation and the operational work of running a small firm. That mix of courtroom and office responsibilities became a consistent feature of his work life.
In 1995 he founded the Law Offices of Matthew N. White. As owner, he managed case intake, client counseling and the everyday administration of a private practice. The role required balancing casework with business decisions. It also offered him a chance to shape how a small practice served individual clients and local businesses.
In 2011 he took on a partner role at Monty White LLP. The move expanded his collaborative work with other attorneys and introduced responsibilities common to mid-sized firm practice. Alongside his private practice roles he has been affiliated with the University of San Francisco School of Law, an association that reflects a sustained interest in the academic side of the profession and in mentoring newer lawyers.
Over a multi-decade career he has combined direct representation of clients with firm leadership and occasional academic involvement. Colleagues note that his path reflects steady practice rather than high-profile litigation headlines. He has spent much of his professional life practicing in California and maintaining an active role in the legal community. He currently practices law in California, handling private client matters while continuing firm leadership responsibilities.
