About Jonathan
Jonathan Merel built a steady legal path from the Midwest classroom to his own firm. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1999 and completed his J.D. at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology in 2002. Those years set the foundation for a career spent practicing law in Illinois.
Fresh out of law school, Merel joined Kamerlink, Stark, McCormack & Powers, L.L.C. in 2002. He spent his early years at that firm learning the day-to-day work of a practicing lawyer. The experience provided a close view of client representation, courtroom procedure and firm management. Those formative years informed his decision to strike out on his own seven years later.
In 2009 he founded the Law Offices of Jonathan Merel, P.C. He has run the firm since then. Over time the office has handled a range of matters for clients across the state. Merel’s practice is rooted in the procedural and litigation skills he developed in private practice. He is comfortable in court and in client consultations, and he manages the practical demands of running a small law firm.
Merel’s professional affiliations date back to the start of his career. He has been a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association since 2002. Those memberships have kept him connected to statewide and national developments in law and to peers who work on related issues.

Today Merel leads the Law Offices of Jonathan Merel, P.C., where he represents clients in matters brought in Illinois courts and maintains membership in several bar organizations. He concentrates his practice on serving clients through his Illinois-based firm.
