About Jonathan
Jonathan James built his path to family law from a background in politics and law. He earned a B.A. in Political Science from Baylor University before taking his legal training at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, where he completed his J.D. He brought that mix of classroom study and street-level argument into courtrooms across Texas.
His early career began in 2013 at McClure Law Group, where he cut his teeth on client work and courtroom practice. Two years later he moved to Hance Law Group in 2015, expanding the range of matters he handled and sharpening trial skills. In 2021 he joined Goranson Bain Ausley, where he continues to practice. Each stop in that progression added practical experience and a deeper understanding of how family law disputes are resolved in Texas courts.
James is board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. That credential reflects additional testing and peer review beyond license requirements. It also signals sustained work in family law matters rather than a general practice. Board certification is relatively uncommon, and among his peers it marks a professional milestone that clients and other lawyers notice.
He is a current member of the Dallas Bar Association and of the Annette Stewart Inn of Court. Those memberships place him in regular contact with judges and fellow lawyers, and they provide forums for continuing legal education and professional discussion. James attends those programs and uses them to stay current on changes in family law practice and procedure.
In practice he handles a range of family law matters. His docket includes divorce cases, child custody and visitation disputes, property division questions, and related hearings over support and enforcement. He appears in county and family courts across Texas and works with clients who face emotionally and financially complex issues. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases and practical in settlement negotiations.
Outside of the courtroom he pays attention to the realities clients face after a case ends: co-parenting challenges, enforcement of judgments, and long-term planning that arises from family law outcomes. He brings courtroom experience and board-certified credentials to those follow-up matters. He is currently practicing at Goranson Bain Ausley and continues to represent clients in family law cases across Texas.
