About Jonathan
Jonathan Hackworth earned his law degree at Stetson University College of Law, completing a J.D. in 2010 after beginning his studies in 2007. At law school he combined classroom work with practical training and clinic opportunities that prepared him for trial work. The chronology of his education sits plainly on his resume, and it laid the foundation for a career in criminal defense.
He began his legal career in public service. In 2010 he served as an assistant public defender in the Pinellas County Public Defender's Office. That role put him in court quickly, handling client interviews, motions, and appearances at every stage of the criminal process. A year later he joined Cole Scott & Kissane as an associate, where he worked on a broader docket and gained experience in pretrial strategy and negotiation.
Hackworth is admitted to practice in Florida and holds admission in federal courts, including the Federal Circuit. That combination has informed both his trial practice and any appellate matters he has pursued. He has navigated state and federal procedures and learned to adjust litigation tactics to different forums. Colleagues and opposing counsel have noted his methodical approach to case preparation and his attention to courtroom detail.
He has also been active in professional groups tied to criminal defense. He joined the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2012 and the Hillsborough Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers the same year. In 2013 he became a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those memberships have given him regular access to continuing legal education and peer discussions about evolving law and procedure.
Today he practices at Blumenauer Hackworth. The office handles criminal matters across a range of charges and filings. Hackworth's work continues to involve courtroom appearances, client counseling, motion practice, and appellate briefing. He currently concentrates his practice on criminal defense and appellate work.
