About Jon Michael

Jon Michael Probstein earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Syracuse University in 1973 and completed his law degree at St. John’s University School of Law in 1976. Early in his career he also taught legal research at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1976, an experience that kept him close to the academic side of the profession even as he moved quickly into private practice.

Probstein began practicing in New York during the late 1970s. He held associate positions at several Manhattan firms, including Marchi, Jaffe, Cohen, Crystal & Mintz in 1977 and Graubard, Moskovitz, McGoldrick, Dannett & Horovitz in 1980. He worked at Berman & Zivyak in 1979 and joined Probstein & Napolitano in 1982. Each stop added to his practical background in litigation and client counseling, and in 1988 he became a partner at Probstein & Weiner.

In 2005 his role shifted again. He served as special counsel to Probstein, Weiner & Butler that year and also established his own firm, the Law Offices of Jon Michael Probstein. He has been admitted to practice in New York and in the federal courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Over several decades he has repeatedly moved between partnership-level work and solo practice, carrying institutional experience into a smaller-firm setting.

Beyond his offices, Probstein has been active in professional and community organizations. He holds memberships in the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association. He serves on the board of the Levittown Chamber of Commerce and participates in the Nassau County Volunteer Lawyers Project. Those roles reflect a long-standing engagement with local legal and civic institutions.

Clients and colleagues describe a lawyer who draws on years of courtroom and transactional experience. His background includes courtroom appearances in state and federal venues, work on civil matters and representation in transactional contexts. He pairs courtroom experience with time spent teaching and mentoring newer lawyers early in his career.

Today Probstein operates his own firm, the Law Offices of Jon Michael Probstein, and continues to represent clients in New York state courts and in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He practices from his own firm and handles matters across those jurisdictions.
