About Johnnie Franks
Johnnie Franks Woodruff earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Freed-Hardeman University in 2001. He stayed at Freed-Hardeman for an MBA, awarded in 2003. He completed his Juris Doctor at the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in 2005.
Woodruff began practicing law soon after law school. In 2006 he worked at Beasley Allen, P.C., an experience that exposed him to high-volume civil litigation and courtroom practice. The following year he joined The Shoals Law Group, LLC and became a partner in 2007. In 2015 he took a partner role at Woodruff & McCaney Law Office, where he remains based.
He is admitted to practice in Alabama and to several federal courts, including the Eleventh Circuit and the Federal Circuit. His professional memberships include the Lauderdale County Bar Association, the Christian Legal Society and the Family Law Association, all maintained since 2005. He has also been active in a trial lawyers association since 2009. Those memberships reflect steady ties to local and specialized bar communities rather than a singular public profile.
Woodruff’s practice has emphasized family law and related civil litigation. He has been recognized by the American Institute of Family Law Lawyers as a Top 10 Family Law Lawyer in Alabama. That recognition appears alongside a practice that handles divorce, custody, and associated domestic-relations matters, as well as contested hearings in state and federal venues. He has handled both negotiated settlements and contested trials.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who moves cases toward resolution while preparing thoroughly for court when necessary. He has balanced private practice responsibilities with participation in professional associations that address both procedural and substantive questions in trial practice. His background in history and business precedes his legal training and informs how he frames factual narratives and financial issues in family law disputes.
He maintains his office at Woodruff & McCaney Law Office and continues to serve clients in Alabama and in federal matters arising in the relevant circuits. His current practice concentrates on family law and related civil litigation in state and federal courts.
