About John P.

John P. Miller brings an uncommon path to his legal career. He earned a master's degree in library science before turning to law, a background that has shaped how he approaches facts and evidence. He is based in Pennsylvania and practices in areas tied to construction disputes and civil litigation.

Miller completed his undergraduate work in history at George Washington University’s Virginia campus in 1996. He then earned an M.S. in Library Science from The Catholic University of America in 1997. After a period working in research and information services, he attended Duquesne University School of Law and received his J.D. in 2003.

Since law school, Miller has built a practice grounded in courtroom procedure and detailed case preparation. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania. In the years after his graduation he developed experience that led to a leadership role at his current firm.

He joined DFL Legal and became a partner in 2017. In that role he handles complex casework and supervises litigation strategies. Colleagues note his reliance on thorough document review and methodical briefing. His earlier training in library science is often reflected in how he marshals records and organizes discovery.

Miller’s memberships reflect his practice interests. He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction Law and Section of Litigation. He also holds memberships in the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Section and the Allegheny County Bar Association, where he participates in both the Construction Law Section and the Civil Litigation Section. Those affiliations keep him connected to peers working on construction contract disputes, delay claims, defect issues and other issues that frequently arise in construction litigation.

Clients and other lawyers encounter Miller most often in contested matters that require both procedural acuity and an attention to documentary detail. He combines courtroom experience with a research-oriented approach that dates back to his library science training. He currently practices at DFL Legal, handling construction and civil litigation matters.
