About John

John Nelson studied at the University of Georgia, earning an AB in 2012. He went on to Stetson University College of Law and received his J.D. in 2015. Those years shaped his interest in how technology and law intersect. They also located his early professional network in Florida, where he later built his practice.

After law school Nelson began practicing in Florida and remains admitted to the Florida bar. Early in his career he worked on matters that brought him into contact with privacy rules and digital-security concerns. Over time those early encounters informed the direction of his work and the clientele he serves.

Nelson's professional path has clustered around cyber law and related areas. He handles matters that touch on privacy, incident response and compliance with regulatory requirements. His casework has involved advising organizations on the legal contours of data handling and on responses to security incidents. He also advises on contractual provisions that allocate risk tied to technology and data flows.

He maintains memberships in the Federal Bar Association and the West Pasco County Bar Association. Those affiliations keep him engaged with colleagues across different federal and local practices. He also uses those channels to stay current on developments in federal procedure and in the regional legal community.

Nelson practices at Nelson Cyber Law, PLLC. He works with businesses and institutions that face legal questions arising from technology and information management. He combines courtroom experience, transactional drafting and advisory work in client matters. He balances reactive work — responding to incidents and enforcement inquiries — with proactive counseling aimed at reducing legal and regulatory exposure.

Colleagues and clients describe him as methodical and direct in his approach. He writes and speaks about practical steps organizations can take to shore up policies and contractual terms relating to data. Outside the office he continues to follow changes in cybersecurity standards and federal and state regulatory activity that affect how organizations handle information. His current practice focuses on cyber law, privacy and data security.
