About John L.

John L. Vaught earned his J.D. from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law. He completed his legal training there before returning to practice in Georgia. The law school’s curriculum and clinical programs provided the foundation for his work in both trial and appellate settings.

After law school, Vaught began practicing in Georgia and gained admission to appear before federal appellate courts. He is admitted to the Georgia bar and to practice before the Eleventh Circuit and the Federal Circuit. Over the years he has handled matters that required appearances in state trial courts and in federal appellate proceedings.

Vaught’s career has centered on litigation. He has engaged in both trial preparation and appellate briefing. That has included drafting pleadings, preparing records for appeal, and arguing issues in written and oral form. His courtroom experience spans the procedural and substantive hurdles that come with state and federal litigation.

Clients and colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic in the courtroom. He approaches cases by assessing procedural posture first, then building arguments that address the record. He pays attention to appellate standards of review and frames issues so they are clear for judges at the trial and appellate levels. He handles the practical work that underpins appeals, such as preserving error and organizing the appellate record.

He practices out of Vaught Law Office, P.C., where he manages matters that require litigation and appellate advocacy. The office represents individuals and businesses in cases that range from state-court disputes to federal appeals. Vaught maintains the routine demands of a practicing litigator: motion practice, client counseling, and drafting briefs for higher courts.

As of 2026, his work continues in Georgia and before the Eleventh Circuit and the Federal Circuit. He remains engaged in cases that move from trial courts into the appellate arena. His current practice concentrates on federal and state litigation, including appellate work before the Eleventh Circuit and the Federal Circuit.
