About John J.

John J. Keenan entered law school after completing a double major in economics and psychology at the University of Michigan in 1970. He earned his J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1976. Those formative academic years combined analytical training and an understanding of people, realities he has cited as important in his approach to practice. He has maintained a steady presence in Michigan’s legal community since graduating law school.

Early in his career Keenan concentrated on appearing in state courts across Michigan. Over time he also gained admission to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He has remained active in professional circles, holding memberships in the State Bar of Michigan and local groups such as the Shamrock Bar Association and the Redford Township Chamber of Commerce. Those affiliations reflect a practice rooted in local institutions and professional networks.

Keenan’s background in economics and psychology informs how he evaluates cases and communicates with clients. He has handled matters in both state and federal court settings. That dual admission allows him to represent clients in a range of proceedings and to handle procedural and substantive issues that arise in litigation. He has worked on matters that require courtroom experience as well as matters that involve negotiation and client counseling.

Colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic. He is known for a measured courtroom presence and a straightforward manner with clients. He has balanced courtroom work with participation in community and business organizations. His membership in the Redford Township Chamber of Commerce signals an interest in local business concerns, while the Shamrock Bar Association ties him to a network of peers in the region.

Today Keenan is based at Keenan & Austin, P.C., where he continues to represent clients in Michigan courts and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He remains an active member of the State Bar of Michigan and local professional groups. He practices litigation in state and federal courts.
